Why does flow becomes supersonic in increasing area?

As the air goes into supersonic region, it's nature changes and itbecomes compressible. It undergoes Isentropic Expansion and due to this it's density decreases. As the mass flow rate has to be constant and the volume of air is increasing, it can only be achieved if the nozzle is diverging .
