Helium is an inert gas.
Explanation:
- Helium is the inert gas with atomic number 2.
- It has 2 electrons in the 1s subshell which is fulfilled.
- It has no 2nd shell, so no vacant shell as well.
- So when other attacking agents attack the helium, it cannot find any vacant orbital from where the attack can start.
- It also don't have any electron to give because of the fulfilled orbital.
- So helium cannot itself attack any agent, and cannot provide room for other attacking agents to attack it.
- So helium doesn't form any compound.
