Helium is an inert gas.

Explanation:

  • Helium is the inert gas with atomic number 2.
  • It has 2 electrons in the 1s subshell which is fulfilled.
  • It has no 2nd shell, so no vacant shell as well.
  • So when other attacking agents attack the helium, it cannot find any vacant orbital from where the attack can start.
  • It also don't have any electron to give because of the fulfilled orbital.
  • So helium cannot itself attack any agent, and cannot provide room for other attacking agents to attack it.
  • So helium doesn't form any compound.
