The original form is a hard solid! That is dehydrated, powdered and anti-caking agents are added to make sure they remain in powdered form.
They work by absorbing water. However if kept in a moist condition, the will soon get overloaded and stop working. Once that happens, the powder will start to harden and turn into the original form.
