Why does ice float on water despite being a solid ?

because ice gives water only a cage like structure due ti which its volumes increases and as volume is inversely proportional to density it's density as conpared yo water decreases hence ice floats on water

prerna16: because the volune of ice is increasing nah and by the formula density= mass/volume denisty is inversely proportional to volume thus density is decreasing
