During freezing of water some space between the particles of water is left vacant with some air trapped in between them. The empty spaces having air in them makes the density of ice lower than that of water. That's why ice floats on water.

hope it will help u....!!!!!

Answer:Ice floats on water because density of ice is less than water. As it cools further and freezes into ice,it actually becomes less dense than water.
