India gets more rainfall by the Arabian sea branch of the South Western monsoon than the Bay of Bengal branch of the same as the former contains higher amounts of moisture than the latter. Also, the former strikes India first and brings the first rainfall in India

Why does india gets more rainfall by the arabian sea branch than the bay of bengal sea branch of the SW monsoons?

  • Southwest Monsoon is divided into two parts due to the peninsular shape of the country. Arabian Sea part moves to the northwards. It reaches Mumbai by the 10th of June. The Bay of Bengal branch and spreads rapidly over the Assam.
  • Branch of Arabian sea is important parts as the Gulf of Aden in the southwest and connected with the red sea through the Gulf of Oman in the northwest and connectivity with the Persian gulf its responsible for giving the rainfall in the northern plains and due to the southwest trade winds that strikes the western ghats and gives a good rainfall to the western sides.  
  • While the bay of the Bengal branch is in the Indian ocean is bounded the west and the northwest India and as the winds move and travel upwards to the north as this area thus gets split up and the rainfall moves around this zone. This area gets less rainfall as orographic effect.
