Why does iodine have a much lower melting point than sodium iodide?

It is always found in a compound. Ithas a low melting point and boiling point, second lowest to fluorine. This is because the instantaneous dipole-induced dipole bonds are weak due to Cl2 having less electrons than bromine and iodine molecules.
