Jodhpur is in the extreme western part of India and so, when the monsoon winds reach it, theyhave exhausted their moisture. Further it is on the edge of the Thar Desert. That is why it has a hot desert type ofclimate.

Answer:

The western part of Rajasthan is a desert region because :

  • The south-west monsoon winds blow parallel to the Aravalli and are thus not obstructed by them and therefore, the rainfall is low in Rajasthan.

  • Secondly, the Aravallis are low residual hills and thus do no not obstruct the westerlies and therefore the rainfall is low.
