why does light travel in straight line

In a dusty atmosphere it is sometimes possible to see light travelling and it does appear to be moving in a straight line. The fact that light travels can be demonstrated by putting an object in its path.

Answer:If light traveled in any manner we would not be able to see the object that light is bouncing off so,to see it properly the light travels in a straight manner and because of the atmoshperic pressure also it moves in a straight manner.
