Here is your answer friend...

Lime water turns milky, when carbon dioxide gas is passed into it. When CO2

passes through lime water, it turns milky lime water due to formation of insoluble calcium carbonate. IOf CO2 is passed for longer period, turbidity disappears due to form of soluble calcium bicarbonate..

Hope it would be helpful to you..

Carbon dioxide passed into limewater gives a milky solution and suspension of calcium carbonate formed: Ca( OH)2(aq) + CO2(g) → CaCO3(s) + H2O(l).

that is why lime water turn milky when CO2 gas is passed through it.
