Menstruation in female human beings occur due to shedding of vaginal walls which are made to provide nourishment to the embryo. This sheds off when the egg (ova) doesn't fertilise with sperm.

actually ova remains in the fallopian tube for 5 days when the ova does not gets fertilised it goes out from the fallopian tube and then goes out of the female body . in those 5 days it gets attached to the uteres also . when it goes out of the body it also takes out some linings of the uteres in which the veins are present and blood also comes out till cloting is done

due to this menstruation occurs.. it occurs after every 28 days this process or cycle is what we call as menstrual cycle
