Hi friend,

NCl5 doesn't exist because there are no d-orbitals in the second energy level. Therefore there is no way to arrange five pairs of bonding electrons around a nitrogen atom...i hope it helps you

NCl5 doesn't exist because nitrogen is simply too small to shoe-horn five chlorine atoms around it.
