why does Nicola not want to trouble the narrator (eng-class-10 1st chap.)

this is the statement shows that two boys were not ashamed of doing Minel jobs such as shoe polish ,fruit seller , fruit vending .when narrator show them to do this type of work he was so surprised that he was selling strawberry at yesterday near Railway station he asked about it then Nicola elder brother spoke that they did many things .. the boys hoped that the narrator would ask for services and in return would earn some good money also....
