Hello mate ,

Your correct answer according to me is - The circulatory system of periplaneta helps in the transportation of digested food, hormones etc., from one part to another in the body. Periplaneta has an open type of circulatory system as the blood, or haemolymph, flows freely within the body cavity or haemocoel. Blood vessel are poorly developed and open into spaces. Visceral organs located in the haemocoel are bathed in the blood. The three main parts associated with the blood circulatory system of periplaneta are the haemocoel ,Heart and Blood .

The blood of Periplaneta (Cockroach) does not have hemoglobin that carries oxygen in the blood, so it doesn't take part in respiration.

Respiration is achieved by a series of tubes called tracheae whose openings are called spiracles.

  • Periplaneta is a typical example demonstrating the open circulatory system characteristic of arthropods.
  • It has hemolymph that is analogous to the blood in vertebrate.
  • It contains cells called hemocytes and chemicals.
  • Exchange of materials occur when this hemolymph circulates freely in the body in constant contact with the tissues and organs.
