Why does only the half of the earth get light from the sun at a line​

Only one half of the EARTH gets light because as earth is round in shape so only one half is faced towards the light and the other half i.e.backward portion does not face toward light at that time so ,that portion does not bogey light and there is dark or night time at that side..
