The type of image that is formed dependent on the reflecting surface the mirror has. If an object is placed within the focal length of a concave mirror, the mirror can produce a magnified virtual image. This property helps to use concave mirror as magnifying reflectors, for example;you can study a wound on your face close to a concave mirror and the image will look much bigger compared to a plane mirror.
Convex mirror;the images produced is virtual and smaller in size and also thinner and so they are used in all automobiles
