pH indicates the basic or acidic strength of a given solution. When we eat food, the bacteria present in our mouth break the carbohydrates into sugars and release acids in the process(eg lactic acid). When the pH of mouth falls below 5.5(acidic medium) , then the acid is strong enough to attack the enamel of tooth and corrode it. Hence it is advisable to brush your teeth after every meal(toothpaste-basic) to neutralize the excess acid in your mouth or to rinse your mouth after every meal.

if pH less than 7- acidic solution

if pH more than 7- Basic solution

pH- Potense Hydrogen
