Plasmodium sporozoites are motile.

They have protein structures (TRAP, thrombospondin-related anonymous protein) located at each end, which can adhere to the inner surface of blood vessels. The inner cell wall of the sporozoites have attached myosin fibres that are connected to the outer cell wall by actin fibres.

The sporozoites adhere to several sites on a surface with the TRAP protein and then extend their body and attach the front end to the surface, releasing the rear end which contracts forward, attaches to the surface, the front end detaches from the surface and again stretches forward.

This method of locomotion is termed "stick-slip" motility.
