The poet regrets after killing the snake same as the ancient Mariner regretted after killing the innocent albatross

He makes an allusion to that incident

in short I would like to tell you that, in the poem poet did the same which the old sailor had done with the albatross. he killed albatross without any reason so did the poet he also hit the snake with a log without any reason. that's why snake is compared to albatross
