Why does silver gets tarnished?

When it reacts with moisture it get tarnished. Silver can tarnish faster in air pollution.

Answer:

Silver gets tarnished because it react with Hydrogen Sulphide gas(H2S) to form Silver Sulphide (Ag2S) which is of black colour

Silver Sulphide is acidic in nature so it can be removed by reacting it with base.

So silver ornaments can regain their shine when they are washed with a base (Toothpaste )
