why does steam at 100°C cause burns more than water at the same temperature?

even though the steam has more latent heat hidden in it, the water causes more severe burns. this is so because the water remains in contact with the skin for a longer time than the steam. but the steam has more latent heat of vaporisation

because the boiling point of the water is at 100°C so it starts evaporating at tht point hence the most heated water vapour gets evaporated and has more burns
