It is obseved that steam causes more severe burn than boiling water at the same temperature.This is due to the reason that steam has more heat than  boiling water at 100 C.So,when steam at 100 C falls on our skin and condenses to form water it gives out more heat than boiling water at 100 c and hence causes severe burns.
