Dear Student,

● Step-up transformer have more turns in the secondary than in the primary coil because -

  • Voltage transformation ratio depends on ratio of secondary coils to primary coils.

Voltage transformer ratio = N(secondary) / N(primary)

  • Hence to increase voltage in step up transformer, secondary coil have more turns than primary coil.
  • Current is reduced proportionately in step up transformer.
