When Iron nail (Ferrum) is dipped in Copper sulphate (CuSO4) there takes reaction between them and coppersulphate change its color from blue to light green. This showsIron is more reactive than Copper, it can replace Copper from CuSO4.

Dear Student,

Reaction in which one element replaces another element from a compound is called displacement reaction.

◆ Colour of copper sulphate change when an iron nail is kept in it because -

  • Iron is more reactive than copper, hence it can displace copper from its compound.
  • When iron nail is kept in copper sulphate solution, copper is displaced by iron to form ferrous sulphate and copper.

CuSO4 + Fe --> FeSO4 + Cu

  • This ferrous sulphate formed is green in colour. Hence, colour of copper sulphate changes.

Thanks dear. Hope this is helpful to you...
