Why does the colour of Copper sulphate solution change when an iron nail is dipped in it ????​

Copper Sulphate solution is blue in colour. When Iron nail is kept in it, displacement reaction will take place. Here, Iron is more reactive than copper, so Iron displaces Copper from it's sulphate solution.

Therefore, The soution turns into Iron sulphate (Ferrous sulphate) and the copper settles on the iron nail.

The colour of Iron sulphate (ferous sulphate) is pale green and as iron displaces copper, we can see the change in colour of the solution from blue (copper sulphate) to pale green (ferrous sulphate).

The reaction can be written as :-

CuSO₄(aq)+ Fe(s) ---> FeSO₄(aq) + Cu(s).

When an iron nail is dipped in copper sulphate solution , the displacement reaction takes place . The colour of copper sulphate solution fades due to the formation of light green solution of iron sulphate .
