Why does the cork act as a protective tissue?

cork act as protective tissue because it is made up of dead cells without intercellular space.and they also have the deposition of Suberin on the walls of the tree.

Cork is also known as the bark of tree . It rescue the tree from machnical injury , atmospheric extinction etc . That's why cork is known as protective layer of the tree
