Its very easy It depends on the position of light source.
Let us take an example of sun. At noon your shadow is underneath you feet but as the sun goes down the horizon your shadow's length also increase.
Or you can do a simple experiment yourself. Take a tennis ball and put it on any surface. Turn off the lights and point a torch or flash light on the ball and note down the directions, size and shape of the shadow. Do this by placing the torch or flashlight in different directions by this you can understand very easily the question you are asking.
