While general knolwedge states that humans need oxygen to stay alive, the reality is more complex. The air we breath hardly contains 20% oxygen. The air we breathe is mostly nitrogen with a mix of oxygen and many other gases. This is a natural mix of various gases which helps our survival. If our air was 100% oxygen we will not be able to survive.

Take this example for sea life. The water in which they live is their equivalent of air/atmosphere.The composition of this air is vital to their survival and a change in the nutrients in water has a long lasting impact on aquatic organisms.

Answer:

Increased level of nutrients in the water affect the survival of aquatic organisms as these act as nutrients for algae to flourish and once these algae die, they serve as food for decomposers like bacteria and a huge amount of oxygen in water body gets used up. This results in decrease in the oxygen level, which may kill aquatic organisms.
