why does the level of water remain the same when a solid dissolves in it

When a substance is dissolved in water, it takes its position in the intermolecular spaces of water, so the volume does not increase.

When a solid for example salt is added to water it's level will remain the same because the salt gets into the interparticle space present in water so the salt has taken the space so there is no increase in level of water
