(i) Bacteria present in the mouth produce acids by degradation of sugar and food particles in the mouth that may bring down pH in the mouth below 5.5.

(ii) Tooth enamel gets corroded by the action of acids and tooth decay occurs.

(iii) By cleaning the teeth with toothpaste which is basic in nature.

The medium in the mouth becomes acidic ,when we take food, because foods are of many kinds & when we take in acidic ones the medium of our mouth becomes acidic. this ill effect can be prevented by brushing your teeth regularly with toothpaste which is basic in nature, speciaaly after having sweet food items
