just because our earth is a magnet it self and attrracts the other magnet towards the opposite poles

Anonymous: but why north?
mohasinaakbanip6ipp9: The Earth is a magnet that can interact with other magnets in this way, so thenorth end of a compass magnet is drawn to align with the Earth'smagnetic field. Because the Earth'smagnetic North Pole attracts the "north" ends of other magnets, it is technically the "South Pole" of our planet's magnetic field.
