Today the world celebrates Mandela Day, a commemoration of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy. A great man, known affectionately as “Madiba” to South Africans, was born 98 years ago on this day. He grew up in a system of institutionalized racism, where the law dictated that he follow a different set of rules than the Afrikaner citizens. Mandela devoted his life to abolishing this inequality, going so far as to spend 27 years in prison. He passed away on Dec. 5th, 2013.
