The plant shoot bends because the plants contain auxins which gets accumulated on the darker side .. and hence the cells in the darker side become longer . Now as one side of the plant get longer it pushes the plants into a new direction.

Since the cells on the light side stay the same size, and the ones on the dark side get longer, the plant bends towards the light.

Obviously plant require light for photosynthesis that's why it will bend towards that side where light is available. This property is called phototropism
