Because they start releasing ovum or egg (female gamete) at the menarche and stops releasing it at menopause

The reproductive phase of a women starts at menarche.

It is because during menarche, a women starts releasing egg or ovum which is essential to produce baby.

The ovary of the women releases one egg or ovum each month of a menstrual cycle.

During intercourse, the male gamete called sperm fuses with the egg to form the zygote which eventually results in formation of baby after some successive stages.

The reproductive phase of a women ends at menopause.

This is because at the menopause stage, the women stops releasing ovum or egg and the menstrual cycle also ends permenantly in this stage.
