Answer: It is only to demonstrate that under ordinary circumstances the sun will never come between Earth and the moon because the moon orbits Earth closely and the pair orbit the sun at a greater distance. In reality, space is extremely, well… spacious

The Sun is millions of kilometres away from the earth. The moon is around 400000 km from the Earth. If the Earth was that close to he Sun, it would be impossible for life to exist.
