Why does the temperature of air increases as it ascends up a mountains orographic rainfall?

Explanation:

As the air moves up the windward side of a mountain, it cools, and the volume decreases. As the air mass gains altitude it quickly cools down, which can raise the relative humidity to 100 per cent and create clouds and under the right conditions, precipitation takes place.
