Tooth decay start when pH is lower than 5.5 because the acids so produced attrack the enamel made up of calicum it causing inflammation and infection. The calcium is the hardest substance in our body. it do not dissolve in water, but is corroded when PH in the mouth is below 5.5. Bacterica present in the mouth produce acids by degradation of sugar and food particles remaining in the mouth after eating.
