why does water take a shape of a circle while dropped from above?

Water takes the shape of a sphere due to the surface tension built up and gravity acting on it.

Water take shape of circle due to its surface tension. Surface tension is a force that act on liquid and wants minimize the area of liquid and sphere(circle) have the minimest area of a definite volume.
