Why doesn't charcoal produce a flame on burning?

substances which vapourize on burning only produce flame.coal does not.

The candle that burn into flame have water vapour, that when we lit it the water vapour move upward for which the candle give flame.But in the case of coal it doesn't contain water vapour, so that it also doesnot give flame.
