See , these regiments were made during the British era not by the indian goverment . to understand why there is no muslim regiment in the army u need to first understand how these regiments were made by the goverment .....= the name of the regiments were formed on the bases of the caste in india . Rajputs and Jats were paid mercenaries and were paid to kill during the mughal era. Sikhs were a minority and there was plenty of availability of food and they have been fighting wars.  it made sense for Britishers to send Sikhs to fight because they fought in cheap wages as compared to Britishers themselves(because they thought that Sikhs are less as compared to Hindus and Muslims).

However, they also made regiments of Muslims in the pre-independent era.

There have been regiments called the Baloch Regiment which is now in Pakistan.

Answer:

Muslim regiment which refused to fight during Indo-Pak war .. Syed Ata Hasnain, a retired Lieutenant General in the Indian Army, clarified that there was no Muslim Regiment ever and certainly not in 1965. “But Muslims fighting as part of multi-class regiments proved their absolute commitment and worth,” he affirmed.
