because most of the solid melts on heating but some solids only directly convert into gases

Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas phase without passing through the intermediate liquid phase. Sublimationis an endothermic phase transition that occurs at temperatures and pressures below a substance's triple point in its phase diagram.✔️

In thermodynamics, the triple point of a substance is the temperature and pressure at which the three phases (gas, liquid, and solid) coexist in thermodynamic equilibrium. A phase transition in which a gas is converted to solid, without passing though an intermediate liquid phase.✔️

Below the melting point temperature, at which point water will turn into water, ice can sublime – that is, transition from a frozen state directly into a vapor state. Sublimation of ice can be demonstrated in hanging a wet sweater on a line in freezing temperatures.✔️
