Carbonates do not react with bases because metal carbonates are itself bases. So base when added to base gives no reaction.

Answer:

Bases don't react with metal carbonates because metal carbonates have basic nature, so there is no reaction occurred when they are reacted with bases.

Explanation:

  • Metal carbonates are usually referred to as bases.
  • These are the different kinds of bases that can easily undergoes reaction with acids to give salt, water and carbon dioxide.
  • Carbonate ion is also hydrolyzed to carbonic acid in their aqueous solution and gives hydroxide ion that is accountable for its basic character.
