We can never change the society, especially India. India has high rate of illiteracy and poverty and there are so many backward, rural and semi-urban areas where old customs and traditions are followed. Where talking openly is not allowed and is referred to as uncultured so yes the conclusion is the society can never change, no matter how hard you try.
Moreover, it is your life. If you want to live openly, you are free to despite the old customs. But changing the society is not in our hands.
