Why dose EVAPOURATION causeCOOLING?

For evaporation to take place the molecules present on the upper surface of liquid should gain energy ( in form of heat) inorder to convert into vapour when it does that it gains the energy from the surroundings( heat) and thus it becomes vapour and thus leaving behind the surface cool
Even the banyan which mens wear also works on this principle

As the faster-moving molecules escape, the remaining molecules have lower average kinetic energy, and the temperature of the liquid decreases. This phenomenon is also called evaporative cooling.
