Because it is at perfect distance from sun. The water helps in cooling the earth as the sun's light rays heats up the earth and the water gets evaporated by absorbing the heat. As it condenses it becomes cooler and get back to earth in form of rain, the water absorbs heat and becomes equally heated to earth.

This cycle continues and the temperature of earth does not exceeds the danger limit.
