why electric field lines is always right angle to the equipotential surface? plzz.. tell fast

because potential at any point is v=e.ds where e is electric field ds is position vector so if it is not in perpendicular direction then charge at that point will move in the direction of electrfield on even equipotential surface which will violate conservation of energy.
