Why electric wire is coated by PVC? Why PCV is used for this not bakelite?

Polyvinyl chloride is a polymer made from the polymerization of vinyl chloride. PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) Electrical Insulation Tapes are used to coat Electric wires and cables to prevent from electric shock since PVC is insulator . Its a bad conductor of electricity.
