Osmosis doesn't requires any energy it is the movement of  the solute from the region of the higher concentration to the region of its lower concentration through a semi permiable membrane. It may occur after a organism dies too.More over its not energy it is the osmotic pressure which causes osmosis within the plant which is developed due to transpiration.
