1. When the eggs from the mother are outside they are prone to dangers from preys
2. Large number of gametes are left unfertilised and wasted
3. Sperm may not even fertilize the eggs

Disadvantages of external fertilisation :-

• Occurs in aquatic medium
• A chance factor is involved because synchronous release of gametes and proper turbulence of water are not sure to occur in the perfect time.
• There's no protection for the offsprings.
