The ryots(farmers) were forced to grow crops in their best soil which they wanted to keep to grow the crops for their daily needs. They later realized that they were not getting any profit from growing the indigo and was also resulting in their poverty. This is why the ryots raised the Blue Rebellion or the Indigo Revolt by refusing to grow the crops.
